Yahoo Screws Up Bookmarks Again with Their New Toolbar

by Jason on February 26th, 2007

New Yahoo Toolbar Version

It appears that Yahoo has done it again and updated their software and eliminated the ability for me to use it the way I would prefer. I’ve written previously about my experience with their new toolbar and my dissatisfaction with said “new” features here, here, here and here.

Because of my previous frustrations, I choose to just continue using the old version of the toolbar and things worked exactly like I wanted. The problem now is that I was just forced to upgrade to the new toolbar to even edit my existing favorites. “Okay” I thought, maybe they’ve fixed the functionality. NOPE.

My Old Yahoo Bookmarks

My biggest problem is that the “Root” list of Favorites no longer exists. Your only options for organizing outside of an existing folder is by “Recently Saved” or “Frequently Used”. You’d think the “Frequently Used” option would give me the functionality I’d want because my favorites that I kept in the root path are my most frequently used. However, as you can see by the section highlighted in green above, the “Frequently Used” group is a list of sites I’ve probably only visited a handful of times in the past months.

This graphic shows how I had some of my most used favorites organized in the root of my “My Favorites” of bookmarks. This is the functionality that is gone. I’m now going to have to recreate a folder with the same information that’s here and progress through another step of the directory to get my desired bookmarks.

I will be seriously looking at the Google toolbar bookmark functions this week and potentiall ditch the Yahoo! Toolbar altogether if I like what I see.

[...] Keep Your Favorites Alphabetically Ordered By Jason | Related entries in New Products, Internet Explorer, Home User It seems I’ve been immersed in “Favorite” frustration today. I was recently strong-armed into upgrading my Yahoo! Toolbar and the wonderfully efficient arrangement of favorite websites I had been using for quite awhile. [...]

The new toolbar sucks. The bookmarks don’t work right. Also, before, you could configure the toolbar to default to stock tickers in the search box. Now it seems as if you cannot do that. I liked having two toolbars. Google for search, Yahoo for stocks, and bookmarks. But now they’ve really screwed it up. Aaargh.

YAHOO! You’ve really messed up this time with the forced update of yahoo toolbar… Just like you did with Yahoo!Chat…I can’t use the new toolbar the way I want it, and as for Yahoo Chat…Its a mess…Go back to the old Original Yahoo! Chat, it worked wonderful..bots and all…At least we could get in it, we could chat an text would show up on screen, other chatters could see everyone’s typing on screen and have fun…Now you have all the bots and we still can not see typing or see most of the chatters talking or typing…HELP Please go back and fix it..You keep promising a fix…WHERE IS IT?? We the chatters even will pay a small fee if we have too just to be able to chat as before! Thank You Sincerely Sylvia0001

The new toolbar and bookmarks are awful. It takes 5 times as long to get to the bookmarks that I use.

When this happened the first time I was able to restore my original toolbar - not now.

    Am looking for alternatives.
