Microsoft Surface: A 30″ Consumer Multitouchscreen

Microsoft sucks at mobile hardware, hence turkeys like the Origami and the Zune. They’re not bad at desktop hardware, hence cool stuff like the Xbox and the Xbox 360.
This squarely belongs in the “cool stuff” category. Microsoft Surface, previously codenamed Milan, is a 30″ horizontal consumer multitouchscreen coming Winter 2007.

As you can see from the screenshots, the horizontal orientation accomodates multiple users. Surface is projected to cost up to $10,000 — pretty pricey for a mere 3GHz Pentium 4 with 3GB of RAM running on (gasp!) Vista.
Surface is not related to Jeff Han’s multitouchscreen, which came first. Yes, this is Microsoft copying someone else’s interface idea again. Sure, it looks like a clunky piece of furniture that’ll give you and your friends backaches, but it’s a start.

Nice try Microsoft. By the time you assholes get your act together with this surface thing, I am sure apple will have a peel and stick version you can rool up and take with you anywhere. Something with a big price tag made by Microsoft has prooven time and time again to SUCK. I am sure they won’t be breaking any old trends with their new and very neat device. Beyond any shadow of a doubt, I claim and trust Apple will simply blow them out of the watter. Cheers
